Returns & Adjustments
This page outlines the Sterling Roots returns policy, post-purchase adjustments, and structural limitations related to hand-forged jewelry.
Because most work is one-of-a-kind and individually built at the bench, exchange and resizing options are limited. Below you will find clear guidance on eligibility windows, non-returnable items, fit responsibility, structural adjustment realities, and repair considerations.
This page applies to all collectors pieces acquired online or in studio.
RETURNS POLICY
Eligibility Window
Sterling Roots does not generally accept returns or exchanges.
Each piece is completed in full before release and acquired as finished, one-of-a-kind work. Most designs cannot be replicated or replaced once sold.
In rare cases, a return request may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Consideration is not guaranteed and depends on structural suitability and condition of the piece. Requests must be submitted promptly after delivery. Delayed inquiries are not eligible for review.
Approval, if granted, is determined solely at studio discretion.
Non-Returnable Items
The following are not eligible for return or exchange:
Custom or commissioned work
Rebuilt or modified foundational designs
Sized rings
Adjusted cuffs or bracelets
Worn, altered, or damaged pieces
Special order requests
Custom and commissioned jewelry is built specifically for an individual collector and is considered permanent upon completion.
All one-of-a-kind collectors pieces are sold as finished works.
ADJUSTMENTS AFTER PURCHASE
Ring Resizing
Most one-of-a-kind rings cannot be resized.
Hand-forged rings are constructed as complete structures. Altering size often compromises stone settings, solder integrity, surface finish, or structural strength. For this reason, resizing is rarely possible.
If a resize is structurally feasible, it will require additional investment based on scope of work. Not all rings qualify.
Resizing availability is never assumed and must be confirmed by direct assessment.
For guidance prior to purchase, refer to the Jewelry Sizing page.
Bracelet & Cuff Adjustments
Some bracelets or cuffs may allow limited fine-tuning.
Adjustments are only possible when the original structure supports modification without weakening the metal or distorting form. Many pieces are not designed for post-completion alteration.
Forceful bending or reshaping by the wearer is not recommended and may compromise long-term integrity.
Any approved adjustment requires evaluation and additional investment.
Chain & Necklace Modifications
Chains and necklaces are typically sold at fixed lengths as listed.
Length changes after completion are limited. Adding or removing links may affect balance, proportion, or design intent. Modifications are only considered when technically appropriate.
Collectors should confirm preferred length prior to securing a piece.
CONDITION REQUIREMENTS
Any piece submitted for evaluation must:
- Be in original condition
- Show no signs of wear, damage, or alteration
- Include all original components
Work that has been worn, reshaped, or modified is not eligible for return consideration.
Sterling Roots reserves the right to decline any request that compromises the integrity of hand-forged jewelry.
REPAIR RESPONSIBILITY
Hand-forged jewelry is built for durability. However, misuse, impact, forceful bending, or improper handling may weaken structure over time.
Damage resulting from:
- Forced adjustment
- Impact
- Improper storage
- Chemical exposure
is not repaired at no cost.
Repair requests are reviewed individually. When restoration is possible, it requires additional investment based on complexity and time.
Repairs are never assumed or guaranteed.
