These one-of-a-kind sterling silver earrings pair AAA-grade natural amethyst with Ocean Jasper in an intentionally mismatched composition. Each earring carries the same two stones, yet differences in bezel construction, texture, and arrangement give each side its own distinct character.
Measuring approximately 2.75 inches in length, the pair balances substantial natural stone with movement and detailed bench-forged silverwork.
Scale & Substance
At approximately 2.75 inches long, these earrings have an elongated statement profile. Free-form amethyst forms the upper portion of each earring, while round Ocean Jasper settings articulate below, creating movement between the two stones.
Slightly extended backplates add visual substance around the stones and provide space for the forged and hammered details that distinguish each setting.
Stone & Material Character
Each earring begins with a free-form AAA-grade natural amethyst, bringing rich purple color and individual shape to the pair. One amethyst is secured in a straight bezel, while its counterpart is elevated within a gallery bezel. Hammered marks across the exposed backplates introduce additional texture to both settings.
Round Ocean Jasper cabochons dangle independently below. Here, the bezel treatments are again intentionally reversed: one is set in a gallery bezel and the other in a straight bezel. Both feature a slight backplate overhang.
Together, the differences are subtle but deliberate—creating earrings that belong unmistakably together without being identical.
Studio Process
These earrings are bench-forged silver, with four individual stone settings constructed at the Sterling Roots studio bench. Straight and gallery bezels are formed specifically for their respective stones, while the extended backplates are shaped and textured by hand.
The individual settings are then connected to allow the Ocean Jasper components to move freely beneath the amethyst. Rather than duplicating one design twice, the pair is constructed as a coordinated composition, using opposing details to establish balance through asymmetry.
