This one-of-a-kind ring features an oval black tourmaline set north-south in hand-forged sterling silver. The deep black cabochon is held within an upside-down heart crown bezel, introducing a subtle decorative detail to an otherwise minimal design. A simple half-round sterling silver shank keeps the profile clean and refined, allowing the stone and distinctive bezel work to remain the focus.
Built entirely at the bench in our Adirondack studio, this ring combines traditional silversmithing with a restrained, feminine form.
Form & Proportion
The oval black tourmaline is positioned north-south, creating an elongated vertical profile across the finger. Its polished black surface contrasts against the sterling silver, while the heart-shaped details within the crown bezel become visible along the sides of the setting.
The single half-round shank keeps the ring balanced and comfortable, giving the piece a lighter visual presence despite the strong color of the tourmaline.
Materials & Method
Forged from solid sterling silver, the ring is formed, assembled, and refined entirely at the bench. The crown-style bezel features repeating upside-down heart forms that securely hold the black tourmaline while adding an unexpected detail when the ring is viewed from the side.
The half-round shank is individually formed and joined to the setting using traditional silversmithing techniques, resulting in a straightforward construction designed for lasting wear.
