This one-of-a-kind sterling silver statement cuff is built around three Emerald Rose variscite stones, arranged in a structured, asymmetrical composition that emphasizes scale and material presence. A substantial 10-gauge cuff foundation supports a layered arrangement of bezels, perimeters, and silver detailing, creating a bracelet with defined architectural weight. Produced as a singular studio work, this piece will not be recreated.
Architectural Form & Presence
The cuff is formed from heavy 10-gauge sterling silver, establishing a broad and stable foundation across the wrist. The structure is designed to carry the visual and physical weight of three stones without compromise to balance or proportion.
At the center, a larger freeform variscite anchors the composition, creating a focal point that expands the visual footprint of the bracelet. The two accompanying stones extend outward from this center, forming a controlled asymmetry that maintains equilibrium across the cuff.
Each stone is elevated through its surrounding metalwork, allowing the bracelet to present depth and dimension while maintaining a cohesive, continuous structure. The cuff sits with authority on the wrist, defined by its width, weight, and deliberate spacing of elements.
Material Composition & Visual Impact
The bracelet features three Emerald Rose variscite stones, each distinct in shape yet unified through consistent bezel and perimeter work.
The central freeform stone is set in a straight bezel and framed with a heavy twisted sterling silver perimeter, reinforced with silver ball accents that introduce both structure and rhythm. This central element establishes the primary visual weight of the piece.
To one side, an oval variscite is set within a straight bezel and surrounded by a heavy hammered perimeter, adding contrast through texture while maintaining alignment with the central form. On the opposite side, a second freeform variscite mirrors the decorative intent of the oval setting, creating balance through variation rather than symmetry.
The oxidized sterling silver finish deepens the definition between hammered surfaces, twisted wire, and smooth bezel edges, allowing each structural element to read clearly within the overall composition.
Bench Practice & Studio Discipline
This cuff was developed through direct hand-forged bench work using traditional silversmithing tools in the Sterling Roots studio in the Adirondack Mountains. The heavy 10-gauge cuff was shaped and formed to establish a stable base before the stone settings were introduced.
Each bezel and perimeter element was individually fabricated and applied, requiring precise planning to maintain alignment across the three-stone layout. Twisted wire, hammered borders, and bead accents were integrated as structural components rather than surface additions, reinforcing both durability and visual cohesion.
The result reflects disciplined metalwork: deliberate construction, controlled variation in texture, and precise stone setting executed through traditional silversmithing practice.
