Men’s Reticulated Sterling Silver Tapered Ring

This one-of-a-kind men’s sterling silver ring is defined by texture, weight, and restrained construction. A deeply reticulated silver surface runs through the center of the band, framed along both edges by smooth sterling silver. The contrast creates a strong architectural profile while allowing the naturally formed texture of the metal to remain the focus.

Built in a substantial tapered form, the ring is wider across the top and gradually narrows beneath the hand for a more comfortable fit.

Scale & Substance

This is a size 14 ring with a substantial profile designed to carry visual weight without maintaining the same width around the entire finger.

The band is widest across the top, where the reticulated surface has the greatest presence, then tapers toward the underside of the hand. This construction reduces bulk where the fingers naturally meet while preserving the strength and scale of the ring from above.

Stone & Material Character

This ring is built entirely around sterling silver and the character created through reticulation.

The center surface has been reticulated to develop an irregular landscape of ridges, valleys, and dimensional texture within the metal. Smooth sterling silver borders run along the upper and lower edges, containing the textured center and providing a deliberate contrast between rugged and refined surfaces.

Oxidation settles into the deeper areas of the reticulation, further defining the variations within the silver.

Studio Process

Reticulation is a traditional metalsmithing technique that develops texture by repeatedly heating prepared silver so the surface moves and wrinkles into an organic pattern. Rather than applying a repeating decorative stamp, the resulting surface develops through the behavior of the metal itself.

For this ring, the reticulated center is framed between smooth sterling silver edges before the band is formed into its tapered profile. The surfaces are then refined and oxidized to emphasize the depth of the reticulation while preserving the clean outer borders.

The result is bench-forged silver with a surface that cannot be precisely duplicated.
