Orange & Gray Crazy Lace Agate Sterling Silver Ring

This one-of-a-kind ring features a freeform rose-cut Crazy Lace Agate with natural orange and gray coloring set in hand-forged sterling silver. A clean straight bezel follows the irregular shape of the stone, while a slight overhang of the sterling silver backplate creates a subtle frame around the setting. A simple single shank keeps the overall form restrained and places the natural pattern of the agate at the center of the design.

Built entirely at the bench in our Adirondack jewelry studio using traditional silversmithing tools, the ring is oxidized to bring additional depth and definition to the silverwork.

Form & Proportion

The freeform Crazy Lace Agate determines the profile of the ring, with its rose-cut surface adding dimension across the face of the stone. Orange and gray move throughout the cabochon, creating a naturally varied pattern unique to this individual piece.

A slight backplate overhang extends beyond the straight bezel, introducing a narrow sterling silver outline around the irregular stone without adding a heavier decorative border.

Materials & Method

The Crazy Lace Agate is individually fitted within a hand-formed straight bezel and mounted over a solid sterling silver backplate. The backplate is intentionally left with a slight overhang, creating another visible layer within the setting.

Each component is formed, fitted, soldered, and refined at the bench using traditional silversmithing techniques. Oxidation settles into the recessed areas to emphasize the details of the hand-built construction.
